About Mutual Home Exchange
What We Do
Mutual Home Exchange is a mutual exchange platform for social housing tenants across the UK. Council and housing association tenants list their current tenancy, search for others looking to swap, and get matched based on location, property type, and what they're looking for - so a swap can happen directly between tenants, without joining a general waiting list or starting a search from scratch.
Who It's For
Anyone with a secure or assured social housing tenancy who needs a different-sized home, wants to move to a different area, or simply wants more control over how and when they move - whether that's downsizing, upsizing, or relocating closer to family, work, or support networks.
How It Works
List your home, browse or get matched with other tenants, message them through the platform, and arrange a viewing - then take the swap through your landlords' usual mutual exchange process. See our How It Works page for the full step-by-step guide.
Who Runs This Site
Mutual Home Exchange is an independent website, run from the UK by its founder. We are not part of any council, housing association or government body, and no landlord has a say in what we publish. A swap still needs both landlords' agreement through their own mutual exchange process: we help tenants find each other and prepare.
How We're Funded
Accounts are free while we grow. After that, the site is paid for by members' subscriptions, never by landlords or councils. We don't use affiliate links, and nobody can pay to change a guide, a landlord page or a review. If we ever show adverts, they will be clearly marked and will never affect what we write.
Our Standards
Our place guides and landlord pages are built from official published data, and each guide is checked before it goes live. Read how in our Editorial Standards, and how tenant reviews are moderated in our Review Policy.
Safety And Verification
Accounts are verified by email before a listing goes live, keeping the community genuine. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your data, and our Terms of Service for the rules everyone using the site agrees to.
