Editorial Standards
Our place guides and landlord pages are here to help social housing tenants decide where to move and who to swap with. This page explains where the information comes from, how it is written and checked, and what to do if something is wrong.
Where Our Facts Come From
Figures on our pages come from official, published sources, mostly under the Open Government Licence:
- People and places: Office for National Statistics (Census 2021 and population estimates, via Nomis), National Records of Scotland, and Ordnance Survey place names.
- Social housing: Local Authority Housing Statistics (waiting lists and lettings), the Regulator of Social Housing (registered landlords, homes, rents, grades and Tenant Satisfaction Measures), the Scottish Housing Regulator and the Welsh Government (StatsWales).
- Complaints: Housing Ombudsman decisions and annual complaint reviews.
- Local amenities: schools, shops, transport and leisure from OpenStreetMap contributors.
- Homes to swap: listings by tenants on this site.
Every guide and landlord page lists its own sources at the bottom, with the year or date of each one.
How Guides Are Written
Each place guide is drafted with the help of an AI writing tool, working only from the data shown on that page. The draft is then read and checked by the site owner before it is published.
- Figures are quoted as published. We don't round them up to make an area sound better or worse.
- If we don't have a figure for a place, we leave it out rather than guess.
- Guides describe what an area is like to live in. They are not adverts, and nobody pays to be included or to change what a guide says.
Keeping Pages Up To Date
When an official source publishes new figures, we import them and rebuild the pages that use them. Each page shows the date it was last updated. A page's date only changes when what it says has actually changed.
Landlord Pages
Landlord pages bring together the regulator's records, complaint findings and tenant satisfaction results for each landlord. Ratings and reviews from tenants are kept separate from the official figures and are moderated under our Review Policy. Landlords don't pay to be listed, and they can't pay to change their page.
