What it's like to live in Droitwich Spa

There is a good cluster of primary-age schools close in. St Peter's C of E First School is about half a mile away, Chawson First School under a mile, St Josephs Catholic Primary School around 0.9 miles and Westlands First School & Nursery about a mile. Worth checking each one's latest inspection report and admissions before you commit to a swap.

For days out with children, you are spoilt. Vines Park sits 0.3 miles from the centre, with Mayflower Open Space, St Peters Fields arboretum, Droitwich Lido Park and Impney Park all within three quarters of a mile.

Two libraries are close by: Droitwich Spa Library and The Old Library Centre, both within a third of a mile. Under-16s make up 16.3% of the wider Wychavon area, a little below the England figure of 18.6%, so this is a family town without being dominated by young children.

Droitwich Spa station is about half a mile from the centre, which is one of the town's strongest cards. If you or your partner commute, or you have family elsewhere, having a station within a walk rather than a drive changes what a swap here is worth.

For buses, the main stops are on Ombersley Street East, roughly a third of a mile from the middle of town, with further stops on Kidderminster Road about a mile out and more spread into the surrounding villages.

On foot, the town works well. Shops, the library, pharmacies, parks and the hospital sites are all clustered within about half a mile. If you drive, you have easy reach of the wider Worcestershire countryside and the villages around Wychavon, which is handy since bus links thin out once you leave town.

For a town of this size, there is plenty within walking distance. The Norbury Theatre is a quarter of a mile from the centre and gives you somewhere to go on an evening without a trip to a city.

Pubs are thick on the ground near the middle of town. The Barley Mow, The Talbot, Star & Garter, The Lounge and Droitwich Arch Rivals are all within a tenth of a mile of each other, so there is a proper choice of locals.

If you exercise, you are well served: Anytime Fitness, PureGym, V Fitness, SpaFitnessUK and Iron Asylum Gym all sit within half a mile. Add the five parks nearby and there is no shortage of ways to get outdoors or stay active cheaply.

Work in the wider Wychavon area looks steady. 57.5% of adults are in work, just above the England figure of 57.4%, and unemployment sits at 2.2% compared with 3.5% nationally. Benefit claims tied to unemployment were 2.6% of 16 to 64 year olds in August 2026, against 4% across England.

In the town itself, the healthcare cluster stands out. Droitwich Hospital, The Droitwich Spa Hospital and The Spire Clinic all sit within a third of a mile of the centre, alongside a medical centre. Retail around Saint Andrews Square and the supermarkets adds more local jobs.

With the station on your doorstep, commuting out is realistic too, which widens your options well beyond the town boundary.

Social renting is slightly less common here than nationally: 15.6% of homes in the wider Wychavon area are socially rented, against 17.1% across England, and most of that is housing association rather than council, at 13% versus 2.6%. Around 70% of homes are owned outright or on a mortgage.

The biggest social landlords in the area are Rooftop Housing Association with 4,711 homes and Platform Housing with 4,209, followed by Citizen Housing Group, Bromford and Walsall Housing Group.

Average weekly social rents in Wychavon for 2024/25 were £99 for a one bed, £117 for a two bed and £130 for a three bed. Because the social stock is a smaller slice of housing here than in many places, swaps can take patience.
