What it's like to live in Chorleywood

There is a good spread of primary schools close by. The Russell School is 0.3 miles away, Chorleywood Primary School 0.6 miles and Christ Church Chorleywood C of E School 0.8 miles. Arnett Hills JMI School and Chenies Primary School are both within a mile and a half.

For secondary, The Reach Free School is 1.9 miles, Dr Challoner's High School 2.3 miles and Rickmansworth School 2.9 miles. Check admission rules and catchments directly, as they vary.

Across the wider Three Rivers area, 19.9% of residents are under 16, a little above the England figure, so this is a district with plenty of families. Chorleywood Common and the community library give children somewhere free to go all year.

Chorleywood station is about a tenth of a mile from the centre, which is the single biggest reason people move here. It puts London and the Chilterns within easy reach without needing a car. Chalfont & Latimer is 1.9 miles away and Rickmansworth 2.3 miles, giving you alternatives if there are problems on the line.

Buses stop right by the station, with further stops at Chalfont & Latimer, Church Lane and The Cross around two miles out.

On foot, the centre is genuinely walkable: shops, library, pharmacy and common all cluster together. For driving, the countryside lanes are pretty but narrow, and parking around the station parade can be tight at busy times.

The outdoors dominates. Chorleywood Common is 0.2 miles from the centre, with Chorleywood Common Park and Lord Howard's country Estate both around 0.7 miles, Old Hanging Wood a mile out and the River Chess about 1.2 miles away. Between them you could walk somewhere different most weekends.

For indoors, Chorleywood Community Library is a short stroll, with RGW Books @ The Antique Collective even closer, and more libraries at Little Chalfont and Rickmansworth.

Eating and drinking is small-scale but decent: Nonno's Pizza and Sathi Restaurant on the parade, the Rose and Crown nearby, The Old Shepherd and the Black Horse a short walk further.

For exercise, Renovate Gym is on the doorstep and William Penn Leisure Centre is 1.5 miles away.

Three Rivers is a working district. Across the council area, 62.6% of adults are in work against 57.4% for England, and unemployment sits at 2.9% compared with 3.5% nationally. Unemployment-related benefit claims were 2.7% of working-age people in August 2026, below the England figure of 4%.

Locally, jobs tend to be in shops, schools, care, hospitality and services around the parade and neighbouring towns. Many residents commute, and the station makes that realistic without a car.

If your work depends on travelling, check the actual journey from any property you are offered. Two miles can mean a very different commute here depending on which side of the common you land on.

Chorleywood is mostly owner-occupied. Across the Three Rivers area, 70.9% of homes are owned outright or with a mortgage, 13.4% privately rented and 14.8% socially rented, a little below the England figure of 17.1%. Only 4.1% is council-owned, with 10.7% held by housing associations.
