What it's like to live in Coseley

Dudley borough is mostly owner-occupied: 66.4% of homes are owned, 19% are social rented and 13.8% privately rented. The social rented share is a little above the England average of 17.1%, so there is a reasonable stock of council and housing association homes to swap within.

Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council is by far the biggest landlord with around 20,731 homes. Stonewater, Midland Heart, GreenSquareAccord and Black Country Housing Group each hold several hundred to around a thousand more.

Average weekly social rents in the borough for 2024/25 were about £85 for a one bed, £97 for a two bed and £108 for a three bed. The age mix is fairly typical, though slightly more residents are 65 and over than nationally, at 20.4%, which gives many streets a settled, long-standing feel.

There is a good cluster of primary schools nearby. Christ Church Nursery School and Christ Church C of E Primary School are both around half a mile away, with Hurst Hill Primary School, Wallbrook Primary Academy and Manor Multi Academy Trust all within 0.6 miles. That is a real advantage on the school run, whether you walk or drive.

For older children, The Dormston School is about 1.4 miles away, The Khalsa Academy Wolverhampton around 1.5 miles and Bishop Milner Catholic College roughly 1.7 miles. Sycamore Short Stay School and Albright Education Centre also serve the area.

For weekends and after school, Clayton Park and The Green are about 0.2 miles away, Silver Jubilee Park a little further, and there is a football pitch close by. Coseley Library is on the doorstep. Across the Dudley borough, 18.8% of residents are under 16, slightly above the England figure.

Coseley station is roughly a fifth of a mile from the centre, which is unusually handy for a town this size. Tipton station is about 1.2 miles away and Dudley Port around two miles, so you have options if a line is disrupted.

Buses are close too. Bank Street stops are about a tenth of a mile away and there are further stops at Coseley Station, Elm Green about a mile off, Parkes Hall Centre and Kent Street.

On foot, the centre works well. Shops, the library, pharmacies and several parks are all inside half a mile, so a car is useful but not essential. If you do drive, Bilston, Dudley and Tipton are all short hops, and Springvale Way Retail Park is about 1.3 miles out with parking.

Green space is the easy win here. Clayton Park, The Green, Silver Jubilee Park and the Coseley Avenue of Remembrance are all within a third of a mile, so a walk or a kickabout never needs much planning.

For a night out, Cosy Cinema is about 0.3 miles away and Showcase Cinema Dudley is roughly 1.9 miles. Pubs are plentiful and local: the Royal Hotel Bilston, The New Inn and the Apple Tree Inn are all within a quarter of a mile, with the Rising Sun a bit further. The Ace of Vapez Coffee Lounge is a nearby spot for a quieter evening.

If you like training, Brave Fitness is about 0.3 miles away, with Ready for Battle, Hybrid Studios, Dominator Gym and Nin-te Ryu Martial Arts all within a mile. For bigger shopping trips, Tipton Shopping Centre and Bilston Town Centre are both under two miles.

Coseley sits inside the Black Country's web of towns, so plenty of people here commute rather than work on their own doorstep. With the station so close and buses running from the centre, Wolverhampton, Birmingham and the surrounding towns are all reachable without a car.

Closer to home, there are jobs attached to the retail and health sites nearby, including Tipton Shopping Centre, Springvale Way Retail Park, Castlegate Business Park about two miles off, and health services such as the DaVita UK Bilston Clinic and the Cygnet sites within a mile or so.

Across the wider Dudley borough, 55.1% of adults are in work compared with 57.4% for England, and 4.6% of working-age people claimed unemployment-related benefits in August 2026, against 4% nationally. Worth knowing, but these are borough-wide figures, not a picture of one street.
