What it's like to live in Bloxwich

Families are well covered for schools. Bloxwich Academy is right on the doorstep at 0.1 miles, with Elmore Green Primary, St Peter's Catholic Primary, Blakenall Heath Junior and Leamore Primary all within half a mile. That is five primaries inside a short walk, which gives you real choice rather than one option.

For secondary, Castle School is 0.6 miles away. Elmwood School, Queen Mary's High School, Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy and West Walsall E-ACT Academy all sit between two and two and a half miles out. Check admissions and inspection reports yourself before applying.

Across the wider Walsall council area, 21.4% of residents are under 16, against 18.6% for England. It is a young borough, and that shows in the number of schools and family services.

Bloxwich is unusually well served by rail for a town this size. Bloxwich station is about a third of a mile from the centre and Bloxwich North is under a mile, putting two options within reach on foot for many people. Walsall station is around 2.4 miles away, with Landywood and Darlaston both under three miles.

Buses run locally too, with stops at Cresswell Crescent near Mossley Shops and at Bloxwich North Station. If you drive, Reedswood Retail Park at 1.4 miles and Crown Wharf Retail Park at 2.1 miles are easy runs.

The real advantage is that you do not need a car for a food shop or a prescription. Most of the essentials are within a half-mile walk of the high street.

For a town of this size, there is a decent spread. Bloxwich Park is a couple of minutes from the centre, with Promenade Garden nearby and the Pat Collins Memorial Clock and Bloxwich Tardis as local landmarks. There is a marked dog walk within half a mile too.

Pubs are plentiful and close together: the Prince of Wales, The Lady Diana, The Bloxwich Showman and the Spotted Cow are all on or beside the high street. For gyms, Big Reds Gym and Fitness and Rise Pole and Aerial Fitness are both a short walk, with TR Fitness and the MLSS Community Hub under a mile.

Community life has a base here. The Robert Parker Centre, Expressions Coffee Shop and One Love Community Music and Arts, Blakenall Information Centre and the North Locality Family Hub are all within two thirds of a mile. For a night out or the pictures, TheLight in Walsall is 2.2 miles away.

Be realistic about the local job market. Across the Walsall council area, 53.1% of adults are in work, below the England figure of 57.4%. Unemployment stands at 4.5% against 3.5% nationally, and 6% of 16 to 64 year olds were claiming unemployment-related benefits in August 2026, compared with 4% for England.

That said, Bloxwich's rail links matter here. Two stations within a mile, plus Walsall station just over two miles away, open up work across the wider West Midlands without needing a car.

Close to home, the retail parks at Reedswood and Crown Wharf, the supermarkets and the health centres are all visible sources of local employment. Walsall College Library at 2.1 miles points to training options nearby if you are retraining or studying.

In the wider Walsall area, 23.7% of homes are social rented, well above the England figure of 17.1%. Housing associations hold the larger share at 15.4%, with councils at 8.2%. So there is a decent stock of social housing locally, and plenty of neighbours in the same position as you.

Alongside that, 59.3% of homes are owned and 16.3% privately rented, so streets tend to be mixed rather than all one tenure. Bloxwich itself has a mix of older terraces and post-war estates typical of this part of the Black Country.

The age profile is family-leaning, with fewer over-65s than the England average at 17.4%. Expect a mix of young families and long-settled households.
